The Bush Cabal conjured up a phony "war on terrorism" for the express purpose of re-electing the Smirking Chimp. If we had not been at war with someone on November 2, 2004, there is no chance those worthless vermin would still be in office.

I have never said Bush stole the election, so I am not sure why you are addressing that comment to me. I think Kerry lost it. This is the kind of polarized stuff that makes for extremely boring discussions. The exit polls do seem to indicate that socially moderate "security moms" who often vote Democratic were the bloc who voted for Bush in larger numbers than expected, and that they tipped the election in his favor. Everyone knows that Americans have never voted out a president when the country was at war, so the results are not surprising on that front, either. However, that can be dangerous, since in the future a president could be a war mongerer just to stay in power. The Economist article seems extreme in its analysis, in my opinion. Mr. Bush's America, for the most part, is not booming, and the Bush administration's gleeful taking on of huge deficits bodes very poorly for the future for all states, blue and red. Kerry almost won, and if the party in power continues in the extreme direction it is heading, the pendulum will quickly swing back and the Democrats will gain seats in two years, and perhaps win the presidential election next time with a better candidate.
