"One would like to hope, but my take is that they were at the 9th hour already and couldn't hold out any longer." No excuse. They've known that the debt ceiling was approaching since WELL BEFORE the election... since the Treasury issued a warning in August, in fact. If it was a 'crisis', it was a MANUFACTURED crisis... one that was ALLOWED to happen because the politicians were seeking the least painful way to keep their irresponsible Big Government spending going full-tilt.
