Target may not have acted out of antipathy, but because its action matches so much of the anti-Christian tenor of the times, it is being categorized as among that group determined to whitewash the public square of religious belief.

Exactly. My husband now refuses to shop there, and I don't like the place enough to tick him off by shopping there myself.

So many things are happening these days that are perceived as, not just striving towards even-handedness, but deliberately anti-Christian, like the Pentagon/Boy Scouts kerfluffle. Feeds into a persecution complex. I point out that, given the power of Christianity and Christians in this country, it's ludicrous to claim that Christians are being persecuted, but he disagrees.

In the minds of the Religious Right, the ACLU has become Public Enemy #1.
