Iraq wasn't threatening the stability of regional oil production, nor was, or is, Iran. Neither country has made aggressive moves regarding trade routes in years. Iraq wasn't threatening any neighbour in any manner, as a matter of fact. So, why are the Marines out of their barracks? I'm not expecting intellectual or even basic honesty from you since repeatedly you've defended the indefensible, merely to score partisan points. I don't say this to be insulting - I am merely making an observation. Until proven otherwise, behaviour suggests that you do support the use of fallaciously grand idealism (free peoples) in foreign policy, suitably backed by military force, to establish US protectorates in the region to ensure that the US gets access to all the oil it desires and not a drop less. I call this war and theft, George W. Bush calls it "spreading peace". Once in a while someone is blunt and speaks what they really mean. In the time of McKinley and Roosevelt, this summed up the sentiment: "We do not want the Filipinos. We want the Philippines. The islands are enormously rich, but unfortunately, they are infested with Filipinos." --San Francisco Argonaut And then, scroll to the present, and George W Bush rewrites history again, telling the Philippine Congress in October 2003 "Together our soldiers liberated the Philippines." Someone should have reminded Bush that it was all about land and resources, just like the current war. Neither McKinley nor Roosevelt cared about the Filipinos - we'll make them love the American way if we have to kill half of them, so went the popular refrain. Of course, perhaps I don't give Bush credit enough, and he really is up on his history: In arriving at this decision President McKinley said: “I walked the floor of the White House night after night until midnight, and I am not ashamed to tell you gentlemen, that I went down on my knees and prayed God Almighty for light and guidance more than one night. And one night late it came to me this way—I don't know how it was, but it came” -- to keep them for ourselves and make them like it.
