"I'm sorry, but deer birth control is simply an absurd idea."

Perhaps not as absurd as you might think.

Just because solutions are novel, and seem strange, doesn't mean they aren't good solutions. Deer birth control sounded like such a good idea, I looked it up-

enquirer.com

Lots and lots of articles out there on this. Who knows? It might be a really good solution.

I live right on the coast of CT and we have a severe deer problem, so bad that there's a day set aside every fall for a bow and arrow deer hunt to thin the herd,
the understanding being that the hunters will use the meat, hides, etc.

and every fall a group of people object to the hunt

i'm not a hunter and wouldn't own a gun,
but i think the idea of thinning the herd in this way is a good idea
and that the time the anti-hunting folks spend on self-righteous indignation
would be much better spent working at a soup kitchen, volunteering at an old folks home, etc.

i wasn't on last night but have read the discussion about the hunting deaths in WI

and I too think that Grainne's comment was offensive.
whether or not anyone knows the victims,
it was a tragedy.

my prayers go out to those families.

Deer birth control is working in England, where the public would just not tolerate culling. Many countries have more humane animal control policies than the United States.

I agree that unfettered human population growth is a huge problem; I just don't think that one MUST slaughter the animals who are affected by it.
