the scary thing is that it was serious, imo. if it were tongue-in-cheek i think it would have been more obvious. after all, consider the readership of the New Yorker--not exactly gold bugs to whom GATA is a household word. i really doubt the Upper East Side social X-rays reading that article in their 1500 square-foot bathrooms while getting a Thai foot massage will think he was joking. even though Surowiecki is a bright guy, it shows people have no concept of what's coming.
