I agree with you totally, average. Sorry it is taking me so long to respond to your post--I somehow got very behind and it is hard to catch up here.

I wish everyone could see what a factory farm actually is like. Unfortunately "big meat" has a grip on our government, so the regulations that would protect farm animals are simply lacking. Big business is all in this together--PETA would like to advertise on the networks to tell the animals' side of the story, which certainly seems fair to me, but none will accept their advertising, because McDonald's, Kentucky Fried Chicken, etc. are exerting pressure.

I did find this little explanation of factory farming, but I've seen others that are more detailed:

In order to be a meat eater in this society (this is from my own personal experience) you have to compartmentalize and make animals into non-living objects in order to consume them. No one would eat a friend. Animals are our friends--the ones we let in, like dogs and cats--but it is all a very subjective hierarchy.

Pigs, for example, are as smart as dogs and very sensitive. How logically can anyone explain why we love animals and eat pigs, once you know they are as smart as human three-year-olds and can solve complex puzzles?
