Winning was deposing saddam. Now it is neutralizing the terrorist/baathist alliance. Thats what falujah is all about. There are great costs in men and money but if we can succeed at that, and come up with even a yet to be defined better iraq--capitalist, representative, democratic or even benign strongman, much will have been accomplished. If january comes and goes and there is still chaos, we have to be prepared to think on our feet. For me that means setting an end date which hopefully will force the iraqis to take a stand against the bad guys. Setting and end date is a 50/50 prop just like our falujah base killing, election securing operation is as well. After that its the three state solution.
Now if you ask me knowing what i know now would i have started the war in iraq when i did, i probably would say cost has been too great but we are there and we have to play our hand out. What is the alternative as of today in your mind ED? Just pack up and leave. Give me something. mike
