I don't think the Taliban would have destroyed the Rosetta stone. Remember, they destroyed the statues because they were offensive to their God (rather like the whole Golden Calf thing in the Christian bible). The Taliban Mullah who ordered their destruction said the statues were there to be worshipped, and therefore offended the God of the Koran. Really, it's all very old testament, and kind of a universal religious reaction.

I can't say I think the Taliban would have that reaction to the Rosetta stone, which was script, was not idolatrous, and if I recall correctly, had some pretty mundane information on it.

What do you think about the rights of fundamentalists to be harsh and strict?
