Where do you find this stuff? You have to wonder about someone who would so earnestly quantify catastrophic risks. It seems to me that what he calls catastrophic risks are so unlikely that the effort to obviate them is inherently not cost effective. I think the exercise is useful if only to demonstrate how silly it is to think they can be avoided and to disabuse folks from worrying about them, but not to implement defenses. But then I suppose the worriers won't be disabused given that it's all political anyway.
