November 23, 2004
According to a new report, exports of mobile phones from mainland China and Taiwan are expected to total 148 million units this year, up 11 percent over last year. The new data is compiled by Global Sources (GSOL) in their newly released research titles covering the booming China electronics and computing components sectors.

Other data on the mobile phone industry show increased competition has caused a slight drop in mobile phone production, but camera phones and other advanced handsets are driving new-product development.

For notebook PCs and accessories, Global Sources says forty-five percent increase in Taiwanese production of notebook PCs is expected for 2004. And eighty percent of notebook PCs to be manufactured in mainland China, compared to 65 percent in 2003.

Mainland China writing instrument production is expected to reach 29 billion pieces by the end of this year, up more than 25 percent on 2003 figures.
