"Cultural wife" might mean that they were married in a Buddhist religious ceremony but did not get an official state marriage license. I know Vietnamese who have done that in the US.

Why would she say it that way? Maybe she didn't, maybe the reporter put it that way? Or his lawyer?

Anyone know what this means? A woman describing herself as Vang's cultural wife said she's "in shock."

It means she is his wife iaw their tribe's laws.

And everyone has a right to be in shock when six folks die...Even the shooter.

This reminds me of our recent Marine incident...Fortunately, in America, the level of danger is usually measured from the eyes of the assaulted.
