Earlie the situation here in the states is worse than you think. I just bought a refrigerator anticipating ownership of a heavy duty waxed cardboard box. Instead it came packed in styrofoam wrapped in plastic wrap. While it might be possible to make a nice rain coat from the plastic wrap the styrofoam is utterly unlivable.

especially if foreigners lose their enthusiasm for US debt paper. Is it enthusiasm or something else (indirect compulsion) to buy US debt ?
