I don't know where you live but in Wisconsin if you hear "I've been shot" over the radio you don't assume it was done on purpose.

I don't know that to be true. What I do know is he had NO RIGHT to be on their land. But in any event, if they were rude and intimidating I don't think that gives him a free pass to kill them.
