SC,

Iraq: you need a staging ground for policing Syria, Iran. While France, Germany are busy backdoor supplying nuke plant equipment to Iraq and publicly denouncing the US, they *expect* something to be done about the enrichment program. I don't understand how we can expect the UN to do anything while they're getting kickbacks on sanctions. Of course sanctions don't work! Kofi wants his check. The US knows sanctions won't work on Iran either. France is the banker for almost every country there are sanctions on: Syria, Libya, Iran

I don't agree with everything Bush does but I haven't seen any good alternatives. There is all this talk about 'the international community' doing something, but with Germany, France and the UN mucking about, would that ever happen? I don't think so.

As far as defense is concerned, what Canada and the US really need is a good trade spat to get Canada paying its own way for defense. Maybe we'll get it soon.
