Sam,

Happy Turkey Day

Yes, very surprising prices.
I think we all know that 128 MB of memory is pretty trivial.
The surprise is that the 1 gig cards are so very cheap.
The SNDK 4 gig CF sell for about $275 on line. The 1 gig Cruzers
are down around $70 the last I looked.

There is an article today on tapeless videocams...

SanDisk will need to think about competing with microdrive in this
arena. If the iPOD is the gold standard for massive, portable memory
it only seems logical that the miniature hard drives will be popular
for video applications as well. SanDisk needs to come up with the
"Memory Chunk" or "Flash Fortress" to serve as a data warehouse for apps
like video. Minimum storage would be 4 gigs in a CF format.

I predict you will see homemade video sharing site that mirror the photo sharing
sites we have now. It is pretty simple to create and link video sequences into
a pretty enjoyable movie format with today's technology.

The solid state video has several advantages. First, no motor hum on the audio.
Second, no need to convert digital file from tape to PC-based files. Third,
random access of files that is not possible with linear tape.

Solid state videocameras today frequently lack good zoom capabilities.
That will need to be fixed in future generations.
