Putin's beef: Vladimir Putin adopted a tough bargaining position during his two-day visit to Brazil but failed to completely lift the Russian ban on Brazilian beef.

The embargo, allegedly over concerns of foot-and-mouth disease, was to be a bargaining chip to help sell Russian jet fighters and obtain support for Russia's entry into the World Trade Organisation.

The problem was that Putin developed an irresistible urge to eat a juicy, pasture-fed steak and ended his tour of Rio de Janeiro in a churrascaria (steak-house). That came after he was served a filet mignon for lunch. To top it off, he toasted with cachaça (Brazilian sugar cane schnaps) in spite of his claim of avoiding hard liquor. So much for leading by example.

Jay, I'm waiting for the green light from boss to travel Xmas back to Brazil.

Will follow Putin's example by gorging in Nelore grass-fed juicy meat at Colonia Churrascaria in Curitiba, wife will drive back, not because I'll drink the "cachaça (Brazilian sugar cane schnaps)" but I go for the 'caipirinha' concotion.

I have to drink it, lots of it, mind you, before they start using all the sugar cane alcohool for less honorable uses such as powering SUV's :-)
