I think the dollar got whacked back then too. I think that's another reason some of the metal stocks got whacked... there were speculative owners of them as the dollar was in a steep slide. You could say the same today in the case of a crash where folks had to liquidate... BTW I'd watch out for speculative longs in the physical gold market too... One of my worries has been that Prechter may be proven right [getting more remote] by way of a stock market crash that took gold down to his predicted levels during the mayhem. You never know... and IMO you never want to be leveraged up so that you'd HAVE to sell.
