I was being flippant about pinning the McKinley / Bush trait on Methodists, I just noted somewhere in reading that is where both kneel.

There are of course all sorts of crazies who will justify killing mass numbers of people in the name of Peace, Freedom, God, Security, Trade, and of course Oil and Them Folks Look Funny.

As far as one being better than the other, particularly taking to task Islam over all others, I have to disagree. Its the extent to which modernism has prevailed over fundamentalism or literal interpretation. The Ismaili sect of the Shi'a led by the Aga Khan, for example, are a very progressive bunch of folks.

A simple anecdotal story on the nature of their beliefs goes roughly like this: "If a man has a daughter and sons, but limited funds for education, he should ensure the daughter receives an education - a lift up - to help her throughout her life. The way of the world as it is now is such that sons/men will have advantages and make their way."

I've met some pretty scary Christian Fundamentalists that if you plopped them down in some far off foreign country and gave them guns would quickly form Taliban-like cultures.

Lord of the Flies comes to mind.
