If you protest the war, and the way your taxes are being spent, I would argue you are less responsible. So are you now admitting that you ARE in fact responsible- being both a taxpayer AND a supporter of the mission, and of the mission commander?

I will be happy to take my small share of responsibility- for paying taxes, and choosing not to go to jail over my beliefs, if you will step up and take YOUR share of responsibility. Actually, I'll take responsibility even if you don't, because it is the right thing to do (imo, of course).

No, you are supporting the society. There are unfortunately not too many legal ways of registering opposition other than voting against the incumbent, protesting, or leaving the country.

The latter isn't helpful if one is committed to changing the society over the long run and putting in place different leadership in the future. That's the best long term other option.

Other choices can be made not to protest but to change. Perhaps the most significant one is to reduce consumerism and energy usage.

But political change is key... and I am not talking about changing the face at the top or the label. Unfortunately leadership in the country is pretty timid and bland most of the time, or arrogant and foolish at too frequent intervals.
