The State Committee on Development and Reforms of the People’s Republic of China won’t allow Chinese oil companies to take part in the auction for Yuganskneftegaz, the main production subsidiary of Russia’s embattled Yukos Oil Company. The information was reported on Friday, Nov. 26, by Chinese newspaper Xinjing Bao and quoted by Interfax.

“A high level official from the currency department of the State Committee on Development and Reforms announced that the committee won’t approve the participation of Chinese oil companies in the auction for a stake in Yuganskneftegaz,” the publication read.

Earlier a high ranking official of the Chinese oil and gas company Sinopec announced that the decision on whether or not to participate in the auction cannot be made at the company level.

“This issue has to be decided by the State Committee on Development and Reforms,” said the Sinopec official.
