Even if it wasn't about me, I am still deeply disappointed. It shouldn't be personal here. There are posts, they have ideas in them, and you really shouldn't try to reach the person behind them. You see, it really doesn't matter WHO you were talking about (isn't that interesting?) and it isn't a matter of discomfort- it's a matter of seeing rudeness, and commenting on it. I suppose if you were talking about some TV personality who couldn't possibly read this forum, then I would take back my objection, but other than that, no, I wouldn't.

Here- I have rewritten it to show you what I mean- You shouldn't be talking about "a certain poster"- you should be talking about what that poster has written. Whether they are decent or not, what kind of person they are, you probably won't ever know- all you will know is what kind of posts they write. I see absolutely no reason why you wouldn't stick to the posts, rather than to the person. I'm surprised at you. Do you discuss other people where they can overhear you in public, or do you save that kind of rudeness for the internet? You don't know what kind of person anyone is here. Positive or negative, you have very little to go on, and imo, we should all refrain from getting personal, and doing so, especially as it is so often done on this thread, is really disgusting. I know being offensive is a habit on SI for many- and in fact most people don't even notice their rudeness anymore, and they get personal at the drop of a hat. But ideas do not have to be personal, and people who must make them so really aren't discussing issues, they are acting out something else, which isn't very attractive to people who are interested in issues. I am truly disappointed in the behavior manifested in your post. (see, I talk about the behavior in a post- it doesn't matter if you are decent or not, or what you are like at all. The post stands on its own as an example of what I consider harmful on this thread. I don't need to discuss you, or what you are like, or think about what you are probably like, to see that and to comment on it.)
