But the Israeli ultra-right-wingers will not let Sharon do what he wants to do which is to trade one bit of land for another. Even the Palestinians may not accept what he is trying to do, but they have not been asked. He, like other Israeli leaders before him, wants to force a solution on to the Palestinians, rather than negotiate one. I believe the US is now becoming desperate to find a solution, not only for the Israelis' sake, and certainly not for the Palestinians' -- but for its own. At one time they use to say that the road to peace in Jerusalem went through Baghdad. Now I'm sure they are saying that the road to peace in Baghdad goes through Jerusalem. > "[Yasser Arafat] will not be remembered as the Palestinians' Nelson Mandela." I believe the ANC feel he will be remembered as such. > the way Zionists keep warping and twisting history to fit their noxious propaganda Other than Americans, does anyone take any notice of that stuff? > Now, you are a white South African, are you not? Tell me, was Nelson Mandela, upon his release from Robben Island Prison, offered HALF of South Africa to set up a black state/democracy? Was your capital Johannesburg declared to remain the exclusive, eternal capital of whites? Was Nelson Mandela offered a mere symbolic sovereignty over, say, Desmond Tutu's church in Jo'burg??? Ok, OK. But the situation in SA is also very different from that in Israel. Firstly, we are all South Africans and so there is a common bond. Secondly, we don't hate each other like the Israelis hate the Palestinians, and vice versa. Thirdly, there's more than enough space here for everyone -- SA is a big and a rich country. And, finally, the majority of people, white and black or whatever, wanted a solution and are actually happy to live together with one another. And, the proof of the pudding has been in the eating. Despite enormous problems, SA is well on the mend and is becoming stronger and stronger. The economy is doing well and most people are happy again. Israel could do no better than follow the example of SA. Of course, it will not be an easy road -- but at least there will be a road. Now there is nothing -- just shit.
