Pepsi still has more sugar but less coffein.
(is that why the US educational system still supports Pepsi more than
Coca-Cola??)

One of the earlies marketing-struggles of Pepsi was
that it could be served everywhere, not just in the backyards.

However, Pepsi had its own marketing sector from the very beginnings, especially in those stale markets.
(Coca-Cola really took a great risk when doing the "classic" stuff)

"New Generation" vs. "classic old stuff"

I'm sure you can find something about that too, some of the pre-civil-rights
US advertisements for Pepsi and Coca-Cola are really fun, just like
the present US-two-party syste
