<If we boot the old material brain up and it starts doing logical things, then why do we do illogical stuff?>

jfred, that's because our brains are not as good as Google, let alone, It so we have limited understanding of what to expect, so take a punt, based on near-enough figuring out determined by previous experiences and ideas.

We are in the process of creating a brain of truly stupendous proportions and we can make it like a dirty great new lobe attached to the back of our brain. If we want to know something, we search our memory for a moment, realize our wet chemistry isn't up to the job, so ask Google, who usually comes up with the goods, including pictures, very quickly.

It'll be such a top-notch brain that it can store petapixels of data, almost instantly accessible and unlike us remembering our way home, let alone a list of 10 telephone numbers, It won't forget. It's ability to do all sorts of things, from finding driving our car to inserting apostrophe's correctly will exceed our own, so as with hiring a lawyer or doctor or car repair bloke, we'll just turn them loose with the problem.

We will become far more logical.
