It is called "winter break" or "winter recess" now- and the kids seem to enjoy it just as much (strangely enough).

"Um, however, on Christianity and schools, I do believe that it is part of our heritage, and that vestiges of it should be permissible in schools, such as decorations or the singing of carols. Indeed, I hope there will continue to be a Christmas holiday for the kids. I'll bet all kids hope so, too."

When I was a child almost all the children were Christian. Probably the same for you. Now they are of just so many different faiths, and I think it must be sad for children who are not Christian to have so many references to Christianity in the culture and for the schools to schedule their breaks around Christian holidays.

To an atheist child, just reciting the Pledge of Allegiance can be a very unpleasant experience.

Thank you for the compliment about this charming thread!
