You probably have not had it cooked properly

That's what they all say. :) I've never had squirrel, but my now very middle-class father is still pleased with the stews he got squirrel as a boy, and with the stew itself.

In some sort of defense of spotlighters... the boys I've known here, who I got into raging fights with over the practice, were boys who wanted to hunt and had no land to do it on, and no means to join a club. It, imo, was more a perversion of a tradition here that was dwindling away. They didn't know how to do it right, just that hunting was something they were supposed to do. No one taught them how to do that thing afterwards... dress it? What an odd term. Anyway, they were the lower-income "trailor" trash boys. In their way, they meant no harm. Though we still fought about it. :) Just my take, but I have a soft spot for them. If I was a brighter, better person, maybe I'd figure out how to arrange proper hunts for them with older hunters to teach them. But I'm not. But it's an idea, perhaps, for someone who is.
