"I particularly note the dog that did not bark in the night: not even Al Jazeerah has managed to scare up "MASSACRE IN FALLUJAH" headlines, and within the Iraq the majority reaction has been silence."

Quiet resignation and reluctant acceptance of the new reality. The dreams of sunni domination fade away and the stark choice between a fair outcome and a terrorist state or region in perpetual civil conflict may have struck a nerve. Some of those nationalists did a good deal of the killing of americans and this will have to be forgiven to some degree if they are to participate. Al Sadr is an example of how this can be achieved.
What about sharon/abbas? For that split second, i could envision two old fighters thinking about a place in history rather than who will control a border checkpoint. Its a recurring dream i have of two people at war jointly surrendering to the futility of that war--both peoples may actually desire some peace and quiet if not Peace with the captital P. Also did i hear right--is hamas about to offer a cease fire with israel? Forgetting for a second that it was israels sword that may have vanquished hamas, its another dream of mine that people who have gone astray may one day rejoin the civilized world. Or is this just TG turkey hangover for me. mike
