China too will have its issues; and it too will have to figure out a way forward. Clearly if it chooses to step down hard on its own Muslim populations, countries like Iran will have an opportunity to decide what, if anything, they wish to do about it.

Re Iran's history - I've never claimed it was an innocent actor on the local or world stage. What I am doing is underscoring that we are not innocent actors either. Cheerleaders for our side tend to completely avoid thinking about our own complicity.

Ignoring one's own crap on the sidewalk is a good way of ensuring that we step in it again and again. If you think that's a good way to develop and conduct foreign policy, all the more power to you -- I bet Rice has job openings.
