Pakistan: Protests held in support of Iraqis

Daily Times

KARACHI: Protest demonstrations were staged in front of mosques in many parts of the city after Friday prayers as a mark of solidarity with the Iraqis.

“The Muslims in particular should voice their protest all over the world against the massacre of innocent people of Iraq at the hands of American-led-coalition forces,” urged Allama Aftab Haider Jaffery.

Speaking at a demonstration outside a mosque in Kharadar, he claimed that the United States itself sponsored terrorism throughout the world. He said thousands of women and innocent children also had been targets in the so-called war on Iraq. He said silence of the world, particularly of the Muslim world, was shameful. The Wali-ul-Asr Organisation organised the demonstration. Protestors were carrying banners and placards. They raised slogans against the USA. The Imamia Students Organisation also held protest demonstrations in the city. The main protest was staged in front of an Azizabad mosque where Maulana Munawar Naqvi spoke. He called upon Muslims to forge unity against the American aggression. He said Friday was observed as a day of protest to express solidarity with the oppressed people of Iraq on a call from Ayatollah Khamenei.
