Nope: At University of Alabama you had a choice of 2 years of ROTC or two years of physical training. The ROTC was far easier and more interesting than running on asphalt roads in Southern heat.

Dave, No, you are not alone. Texas A&M had the same requirement when I went there. Class of '57.
