"A christmas carol, in the context of learning about many religions, is fine with me"

that is how I feel about religious observances- any and all of them

AS for Christmas- in every school I have dealt with it is now "Winter Break." Since both Christians and non Christians experience "winter", and the break is not just for Christmas (it includes the New Year as well- and also includes Chinese and Jewish holidays)- I think it is more logical (on top of all other reasons militating for this name) that we now call it "Winter Break." Christian children seem to want those two weeks off- and do not seem unduly alarmed that they are getting a "winter break" rather than just the 3 day weekend they might get if it were "Christmas" holiday.

So just enjoy Winter Break for what you get out of it- since that is what we call it now, and since you don't want to go overboard....
