Search of the past 200k messages (even better 365k messages) seems reasonable. Allowing exact or partial phrase searches and specifying the poster, imo, should be standard. You can enhance the search for paying members by allowing to sift through the current search results or to perform boolean operations on searches (search for X with either Y or Z but not W).

I probably wouldn't mind the search span going from 2 years to 1 year on Jan 1 ... but going from 1 year to 1 day would be laughable ... assuming any of us would even be laughin'.
