We have something like that. It's quite a handy thing, especially out here on the farm. You plug it into a regular wall socket and charge it up. You can then use it as a power source for regular plug in stuff like lamps, laptop, etc.. or to charge cellphone batteries, camcorders, etc.. You can also use it to boost a vehicle with a dead battery. We got it as an emergency power unit for when we get blackouts (not that common, but they do happen out in the country in severe weather). We also have a very high-powered rechargeable floodlight for similar reasons. Anyhow, the power unit probably wouldn't cost that much down there. Big thing is that you do have to remember to charge it from time to time if you haven't used it for a long while.

Batteries sometimes need to have distilled water added. I find a turkey baster works well for that. A charger clips onto the two posts of your battery and plugs into the wall. They do make a small charger that just plugs into the cigarette lighter for emergencies.
