Very hard it is to overcome the pressing of the new language in the cuisinard, so to say, of the old.

That, of course, is one of the ways one gets regional accents. For example, "Brooklynese" is a combination of linguistic habits of native Yiddish speakers and southern Italian speakers, stamped on English, with a few other ethnicities contributing.
