Agustus,

Re: The problem is short of rebating of taxes not paid I'm not sure taxes can be lowered anymore than they already have for a lot of folks.

Richard Nixon proposed exactly this solution, i.e. a negative income tax, in the early 1970s. It was a profoundly egalitarian suggestion, and one that was anathema to the big business greedheads in the GOP. Ironically, it was also anathema to a large number of people employed in the social work industry, who saw their jobs threatened.

Re: I don't deny that terrorism was used as an election tool. Honestly I think both parties used it to a degree. The difference is I really believe the threat is real

Unquestionably the threat is real. My major concern is that if you do an honest cui bono? analysis, you'll soon discover that it isn't the swarthy foreigners we need to fear so much as those in our midst who hope to enrich themselves by means of terrorizing the general populace. This was the modus operandi of the Nazi regime, and frankly, it appears to be the program here in the U.S. today.

Perhaps you'll take a few minutes to read this fine essay on the nature of the general public's acquiescence to the evil and shadowy forces that have gained control of this nation:
scoop.co.nz

You may not see enemies of the people in the shadowy world of espionage, covert ops and in the recesses of 14 distinct and for-the-most-part "classified" organizations in the so-called "intelligence community", but I'll assure that many of us who have paid attention to history (for example the findings of the Church Commission) understand the huge threat that secret government agencies pose to our way of life and our liberties.

As the wags put it, "if you aren't alarmed, you haven't been paying attention."

Re: I think Bill Clinton made an offer to Arafat that was as good as he was ever going to get. He turned it down in favor of his old man hatred for the Jews.

You do not know what Arafat was offered. That information is still classified. From what I can gather, after softening up Arafat with a lot of reasonable compromises, Clinton and the Israelis made some extraordinarily harsh demands in the last hours of the negotiation, after the U.S. and the Israelis had made certain to propagandize the American public on what was on offer. Basically, Clinton tried to pull a fast one, and Arafat intelligently and bravely refused to be swindled by the last minute manuveurs.

Re: Since I believe this issue is the inception point for much of the trouble in the ME I just don't know what we can do other than to go on the offensive.

Now here we completely disagree. I believe that the problem could easily be resolved by the acceptance of a compromise such as the "Geneva Accord" proposed a couple of years ago. As far as I can tell, it was the war-like, aggressive thieves who make up the extreme Zionist movement who scuttle any sensible efforts to end hostilities. These immoral and vulgar men want only one thing, i.e. to dispossess the Arabs of their lands by means of every indecent trick, murder, mayhem or torture that they can conceive. These are some of the most despicable people on the face of the planet.

Re: I don't want endless years of wars and death.

With George Bush in office you are absolutely guaranteed this result.

Re: I'm a middle class guy who doesn't want whats best for the few nor do I want to send my son off to war.

Then you are very different from the elites in this country in both regards. Not only do they want a completely oligarchic nation, but they will also insist that the nation's lower and middle classes pay for the wars in both treasure and the ruined lives of the children.

Re: My eyes are wide open and if I start to sense we're headed down the road you describe I'll change my tune.

Having open eyes is one thing. Knowing what to look at is quite another matter. I do hope that you are reading the planning documents coming out of AEI, PNAC, JINSA, A.L.E.C. and the other organizations that are determining the future. And I do hope you've read the "National Security Strategy of the United States" and "Vision for 20/20"(sp?) by the U.S. Space Command. As well, you need to familiarize yourself with the essential documents (those that you can access) on the military's "Northern Command".

Once you've really opened your eyes and gotten into the heart of the beast, you'll see that maintaining your middle class way of life is absolutely not the goal of the powers who control the U.S. government, military and corporations today.

Best, Ray
