I don't intend to be superior, just to explain what I understand to be the truth. Re: "Freedom works, until it doesn't" No, Freedom Works, IMO(and should by your opinion, IMO). Re: "The lesson of history is that it doesn't work for long." No, quite the opposite, IMO. Re: "How long did Greek democracy last? How long the Roman Republic? How long...empires led by dictators?" See, here you've lumped "dictators" and the rest in with what you apparantly consider to be failed governments which offered freedom to people. None of them, IMO, offered freedom to their people even close to what the great American Experiment did. Case closed. You could say a dictatorship "worked" because it lasted a long time, indeed. But that's not enough if one wants to see which form of government was truly helpful to the common man. Dan B.
