VLSI Research lists 1H leaders in equipment sectors

LONDON — Market research company VLSI Research Inc. has updated the market share figures for 19 chip manufacturing and testing equipment sectors for the first half of 2004. Equipment revenues were up 63 percent from the first half of 2003, the company said Wednesday (Dec. 1).

All three major segments of the market — wafer process, test and related systems and assembly — showed more than 60 percent growth.

The best performing segment was assembly equipment, with a 70.9 percent increase year-on-year.

In wafer exposure ASML had 40 percent market share to two lots of 30 percent held by Canon and Nikon, according to VLSI.

In the test area Advantest led memory test, Teradyne led logic test and SOC test, while Yokogawa Electric Corp led the mixed-ignal' linear and discrete test field.

Synopsys snuck in front in Design and Test Integration Systems, just ahead of PDF Solutions Inc. and Asyst Technologies Inc.

NuFlare Technologies was a big leader in mask exposure equipment in the first half of 2004 35 percent to 20 percent held by secondd placed Micronic Laser Systems AB.

Market leading Applied Materials led just two of the 19 sectors; the massive deposition sector worth US$4174.5 million and the CMP equipment sector, worth US$588.5 million, during the period.
