And so, if interest rates are rising then all sorts of things can happen -- USD can strengthen, gold price can fall, inflation can fall, house prices can fall -- and Joe Six pack can go insolvent.

Interesting... Actually, I knew about Eskom and its interest for the Inga dam hydroelectric capacities (DRC)... Who knows, perhaps SAn manpower and (cheap/affordable) Chinese technology is the right mix to develop Austral Africa? (There's no al-qaeda in Austral Africa hence no need for US military bases).
