Must the number "you show" be held sacrosanct ? To a certain extent, yes. The number "we show" is the number of new messages that person has written. Pretty black and white with no shades of gray about it. Remember, I'm a programmer, and thinking in terms of gray isn't easy for me. A bit is either 0 or 1 and that's the way I tend to think. What about my problem, please? Adjusting the URL doesn't seem to have ANY permanent effect. No, it won't have any permanent effect. It'll only work while reading that user, then you'll have to edit the URL again for the next person. There's no easy programming solution to your problem, which was caused by you hitting the "Reset All" link. We have no way to determine what the numbers were before you hit the link. And if we made it so that you could "hard-code" a number in there, such as 20, it'd be a ton of work and you could very well be the only person who would use that. Most people would want the number of new messages shown to actually be the number of new messages. I could put in an "Are you sure?" popup when someone hits the "Reset All" link but I have two problems with that: 1. It'd require the use of Javascript, which I despise. 2. I have an attitude problem about such popups. I literally say aloud "Yes, I'm sure or I wouldn't have hit the darned button." every time some well-meaning piece of software asks me if I'm sure I want it to do what I just told it to do. Another approach would be to make it possible to step through a person's messages from within their profile, but I'm looking at the Profile screen right now and haven't a clue where I'd put such a link, and all I'd really accomplish with that is a savings of one click (the "Back" button) per message. Very low ROI.
