For despotic countries like Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, that aren't directly threatening U.S. citizens,...

Most of the 9/11 terrorists came from SA...a direct product of the fundamentalism there, driven by their hatred for the regime and our support for it. Where's your perspective coming from ?

For countries who directly threaten us like Iraq, Iran, or North Korea, war is a very real possibility.

How do they directly threaten the US?

Iranian Group Looking for Suicide Bombers
TEHRAN, IRAN-November 28, 2004 — The 300 men filling out forms in the offices of an Iranian aid group were offered three choices: Train for suicide attacks against U.S. troops in Iraq, for suicide attacks against Israelis or to assassinate British author Salman Rushdie.

It looked at first glance like a gathering on the fringes of a society divided between moderates who want better relations with the world and hard-line Muslim militants hostile toward the United States and Israel.

But the presence of two key figures – a prominent Iranian lawmaker and a member of the country's elite Revolutionary Guards – lent the meeting more legitimacy and was a clear indication of at least tacit support from some within Iran's government.

From Debkafile:
"UN nuclear watchdog chief ElBaradei admits in interview Iran has denied repeated requests to visit two suspect sites at Parchin military complex southeast of Tehran and Lavizan II northeast of capital. This suggests Iran still working clandestinely on weapons program in breach of this week’s deal with agency that enabled Tehran to escape sanctions"
