Human rights and dignity are not necessarily tied to economic or political systems, even though we like to believe one is an absolute prerequisite to the other. Its certainly true that liberal democracies tend to have better records, but these better records are *at home*, not elsewhere.

(The indigenous peoples of North America might still have a bone to pick about the record at home, too.)

Many modern democracies have a woeful record in their operations abroad, in large part due to capitalistic instinct run amok, over riding lofty democratic ambitions and goals in favour of the mercenary.
