Way back in the dark ages, late 60's, early 70's, we got a German Shepard pup. She was the runt of the litter and I think her picture was in the dictionary for doggie neuroses. Poor thing was always last and deferred to the rest of the litter mates. When we got her she would just cower in a corner or run outside to hide in a doghouse I made large enough for her adult size to be. The only thing she stood up for was her security blanket. She was like Linus with his blanket, carried it everywhere; growled and hair on end if anyone tried to touch it, including what turned out to be 2 more dogs and 3 cats. She was spayed, but the cats used to let her "nurse" their kittens... as long as nobody messed with her blanket. She was still dragging around the shreds of her blanket when she was 6 years old.
