Kids --- particularly mentally ill ones --- should not use *any* psychoactive substance (and that definitely includes alcohol and tobacco as well).

A few other points, though:

Medical research has demonstrated a potentially significant cancer-killing effect for the active ingredients found in cannabis.

A 1974 US study first found this effect --- then the US government ordered the medical study destroyed, and pulled from all library shelves.

Recently, a Spanish study demonstrated the ability to shrink inoperable brain tumors (in mice).... Drug companies are ramping up their studies (except in the US --- where the FDA gives the DEA a veto over all cannabis medical research --- and they they have vetoed all research proposals sent to them).

Even so, a DEA administrative judge in the late '80s concluded that "cannabis was the *least dangerous* therapeutic substance known to man"....

I say: let medical research go where ever it thinks it has the chance to find cures... and keep the politicians out of it.
