I am not going to read the last link about the pandemic because I AM really afraid, and I DO need to sleep at night. There are some things that can kill you that are pretty much out of your control (well, a lot of things, really), and a flu pandemic is one of them.

I spent my whole adult life in San Francisco, which is definitely a gateway city for flu bugs from Asia. Hundreds of flights every day, huge Asian tourism, lots of Asian San Francisco residents going back and forth constantly. I am very relieved not to be quite so much near a direct flight path anymore. I know the U.S. government is rapidly developing plans to quarantine whole areas near where the flu enters (if it does), so I am hoping their plans work!

Being a closet Luddite, in some ways I would prefer no airplanes at all. Taking a steamer somewhere . . . that's traveling.
