Not sure why you are quoting someone who suggests, via his point of view, that Vietnam was a good thing, but if that works for you, go for it.

I think any soldier (actually we should be talking about the Marines, they are doing most of the dying there) who risks his life to save the lives of his comrades should be honored.

But taking part in the war, in and of itself, does not in my opinion make a Marine a hero. Rather, it makes him a victim.

Also, regardless of the Marine's actions, I can't willfully suspend disbelief and pretend that he is helping to protect my life or liberty ... it just isn't true.
