I realize this has been kind of a painful process--me showing up again. I didn't quite realize until about a day ago just how much so many people here had been hurt and how deep the fissures were between some of the posters here, because I was gone for so long. I am not saying I can fix that at all, because I can't, but I really am sincere about creating a place where all of you can post (or ignore each other) safely. I do hope we all agree now that I have never banned anyone for political reasons, because I'd like to stop talking about that forever. Yes, Ionesco would never ask me to ban another poster. But also, I want you to be clear that I would never ban one poster so another person would post here, even if I had much closer ties to the second poster. That wouldn't be fair. Just to explain that remark in one of my posts that a couple of people didn't seem to be posting here, I think you read "some regret" into it. I've reread that post, and I was remarking (paraphrasing here) that I was relieved that I hadn't had to ban very many people, but that a couple of people had stopped posting voluntarily, meaning they had apparently decided to leave on their own because they couldn't be weird or abusive here.
