I knew they changed it to AKT, but I still thought that was just short for Applied Komatsu Technology.

Texas Instruments (nyse: TXN - news - people ) will provide a mid-quarter update for the fourth quarter on Tuesday afternoon. In mid-November, Credit Suisse First Boston raised earnings estimates for the company, citing strong product momentum in projectors and high-definition televisions for the company's digital light processing technology. CSFB said DLP is "a primary growth catalyst" and "the most compelling technology for large-screen TVs." The firm reiterated an "outperform" rating and a $30 price target. Shares closed at $25.10, up 19 cents, or 0.76%.

I looked at DLP about a year ago - it's quite fascinating.
However based on few post exchange on yahoo board I got impression it's more like a niche though growing.
CSFB has been "pumping" TI suggesting to switch from INTC into TI.
From what I recall TI was sole supplier of DLP technology but 3 - 4 months ago a player emerged in Japan
