In their view, it wasn't about the Watergate scandal. It was about some guy named Alger Hiss and the anger it caused the left. It had nothing to do with the fact that Nixon was involved in the Watergate scandal and lied about it. And yet, the right impeached Clinton over his lying about Lewinsky I did not realize you were that old. I am not old enough to remember. I do recall the press whining about Alger Hiss. But I do not know the details of it. Since I was not there, I cannot judge whether the press unfairly criticized Nixon for his role in the Hiss trial, not can I judge whether your response is just a knee jerk liberal criticism. You still don't get it. Nixon will go down in history as the moral superior to Clinton. As long as you filter everything through your bias, you never will understand why Clinton was impeached. Lying under oath caused Clinton’s impeachment. The relevance of Clinton's crime was similar in nature to breaking in entering or murder. When you are the chief law enforcement officer, any corruption is unacceptable. Nixon if he had not resigned would have been impeached. The Republicans of Nixon's day did not put party loyalty above honor. Democrats may choose not to absorb the lesson contained within that statement. You certainly have chosen to. You may choose to believe that Peggy Noonan is some fringe whacko. She is one of the most lucid writers I read. She is an Op Ed writer, so, unlike Maureen Dowd, who should be reporting facts rather than her opinion, Peggy Noonan is expected to provide her opinion accompanied with sufficient facts to support any conclusions. She does that very well. She also does it in a word restricted forum. Peter
