The generals made a huge strategic mistake at the outset of the war. All enemy soldiers should have been killed or put into POW camps instead of allowed to go home. The decision to send them home, born out of our country's incredible passion for humanity, has turned this conflict into a long term nuisance. Next time we enter a theater, I hope we aren't the "compassionate" military we have been in Iraq.

BTW, I am on record as favoring a withdrawal from Iraq the day after the election next month. We probably should have left the day we caught Saddam.
